Camping in the winter

It may sound a bit too cold to go camping in the winter, but it doesn't have to be! If you dress well and have the right stuff it can be super fun. In winter it is also very beautiful and also quieter, because hardly anyone goes outside when it is so cold. I would definitely try it out!

At first glance you don't like it, but I can change that with these reasons why you should do it right.

  1. Nature is really beautiful in winter. Just think of a landscape full of beautiful white snow or the clear blue winter sky. You can look at this with a nice cup of hot coffee or tea.
  2. It is quieter than in summer. The campsites are not overcrowded and you can relax.
  3. You do not suffer from insects. Mosquitoes, wasps and other insects do not come across in the winter, so you do not have to annoy yourself all the time.
  4. It is very healthy, because you are in the fresh air all day.
  5. You also have a greater chance of seeing wild animals. Because there are so few people, deer, foxes and other animals show themselves faster.

But how do you stay warm?

First you need to dress warmly, which is easiest to do in layers. First thermo underwear and then, for example, you put on a longsleeve, wool sweater, pants and jacket over it. We have beautiful sweaters from Ivanhoe for men and women. Also make sure you have a good combination between socks and shoes. Putting on a hat, gloves and scarf will also keep you warm.

Secondly, you need a warm sleeping bag. I would for a mummy sleeping bag choose, because it is all around you and ensures that no cold gets to your body. To choose the right sleeping bag you have to look carefully at the temperature that this sleeping bag can handle. Keep in mind that the coldest temperature is actually the temperature where you can just survive.

You can also build a tent from Crua buy. You can't easily backpack here, but you can drop somewhere and walk from there. The special thing about this tent is that there is an insulation tent on the inside that you inflate so that heat stays inside.

Fourth, you can warm your sleeping bag with a jug before going to sleep.
Finally, you should also eat enough, because this will give your body energy to keep you warm.

In short, winter camping, just do it!
