Which ski pants do you choose? The most important tips for recreational skiers!

Are you going out on the slopes soon, but have no idea which ski pants you need? Don't worry! If you are not on the slats every week, you especially want ski pants that are comfortable, warm and functional – without immediately going for a professional racing performance. In this blog I will help you with the most important points you should pay attention to. And I immediately tip you two top models from our range at CheapOutdoor: the Husky Gili and the Husky Grati.

1. Waterproofing: let the snow come!

Nothing as annoying as wet ski pants. Even if you don't fall much, you will have to deal with snow melting on your pants. Therefore, pay attention to the water column of the pants. A water column from 5,000 mm is suitable for light snowfall, but if you really want to stay dry with more intensive use, then 10,000 mm or higher is ideal.

The Husky Gili ski pants have a water column of 10,000 mm, thanks to which they perfectly protect you from snow and wet conditions. Useful if you don't always want to stop to dry up in a mountain hut!

2. Breathability: no sauna effect

Your ski pants should not only keep water out, but also wick away moisture from the inside well. Nothing is as annoying as sweating and then cooling off in the cold. Breathability from 5,000 g/m2/24h is a good standard for a comfortable day on the slopes.

The Husky Grati ski pants are a good choice here: breathable and comfortable, so you stay dry – both inside and out.

3. Freedom of movement: skiing without restrictions

For a couple of descents a year, you don't need ultra-tight racing pants. Above all, you want comfort and freedom of movement. Ski pants with a softshell material or stretch panels allow you to move smoothly without squeezing the pants.

Both Husky ski pants, both the Gili and the Grati, have an ergonomic fit and contoured knees, so you can move on the slats without any problems.

4. Insulation: Warm, but not too warm

If you don't ski often, you are probably more likely to stop, take pictures or enjoy the view. Insulated ski pants will help you stay warm, without the need for ten layers of thermal clothing. Look for pants with light synthetic padding that will keep you warm without feeling heavy.

5. Extras that make your life easier

  • Adjustable waistband: useful if you wear just a little more or less layers.
  • Reinforced inside at the ankles: prevents wear from ski boots.
  • Ventilation zippers: nice if you get warm after a brisk descent.
  • Snow catchers: keep snow out once you go down.
