Test: Husky Faddy 9 & Flippy 8.5 - Comfortable airbeds for cold nights

Anyone who regularly takes a tent out into nature knows that a good night's sleep is vital. A decent sleeping mat or air mattress is therefore not a luxury, but an essential part of your equipment. We took a closer look at two inflatable sleeping mats from the Husky brand: the Faddy 9 and Flippy 8.5. Both models combine lightweight design with surprising comfort as well as high insulation value.

Why an air mattress from Husky?

Husky is a Czech outdoor brand known for its robust, functional equipment for true outdoor enthusiasts. The Faddy 9 and Flippy 8.5 belong to the Comfort line of sleeping mats: thicker, inflatable airbeds suitable for multi-day trips and cold conditions.

Both models are made of strong 20D 380T Ripstop nylon with a TPU coating. This makes them hard-wearing, water-resistant and lightweight. Moreover, they roll up super-compact after use.

Husky Faddy 9 - for extra comfort and insulation

With a thickness of 9 cm, the Husky Faddy 9 offers great comfort, even on uneven or cold surfaces. The air bed has an R-value of 5.5, which means it insulates well against cold from the ground - ideal for spring, autumn or chilly summer nights in the mountains.

Technical data:

  • Dimensions: 180 × 63 × 9 cm

  • Pack size: approx. 29 × 11 cm

  • Weight: ± 750 grams

  • Material: 20D 380T Ripstop nylon with TPU

  • Insulation value (R-value): 5,5

➡️ Plus points: thicker than average, good insulation, sturdy material
➡️ Note: slightly larger in pack volume than ultralight models

Husky Flippy 8.5 - for whom every gram counts

The Flippy 8.5 is a slightly lighter, slimmer variant that is perfect for trekking trips where every gram counts. With a thickness of 8.5 cm and an R-value of 6, this airbed is also great for use in cooler conditions.

Technical data:

  • Dimensions: 190 × 65 × 8.5 cm

  • Pack size: approx. 34 × 11 cm

  • Weight: approx. 790 grams

  • Insulation value (R-value): 6

  • Maximum load capacity: 120 kg

➡️ Plus points: very good insulation, compact, wide enough for side sleepers
➡️ Note: just a bit longer to store than the Faddy

In practice

Both airbeds are easy to inflate thanks to a clever valve system. You can do this manually or with a small pump bag. Deflating and rolling up is smooth - you have the mat packed up again within two minutes. The non-slip surface keeps your sleeping bag neatly in place.

Both the Faddy 9 and Flippy 8.5 feel solid and lie surprisingly stable. They hardly collapse and you hardly notice any uneven surfaces. The insulation works well: even in temperatures just above freezing, you lie comfortably.

Conclusion: which one will you choose?
